Basic Deck Flashcards
How wide is a neuron?
10x10^-6m
What is the volume of the human brain?
1300 cc (cm^3)
What are dendrites?
part of the neuron that receives most inputs
What is the soma?
Cell body of the neuron
What is the axon?
Part of the neuron that carries most outputs
What are the components of the meninges?
Dura mater, arachnoid mater, pia mater
Dura mater
tough, dense membrane (composed mainly of collagen fibers) that
surrounds the spinal cord and the brain. forms the falx cerebri
Arachnoid mater
thin non-vascular membrane, subdural hematoma and meningitis can happen here
Pia mater
a delicate membrane that closely covers the surface of the brain down to depths of the sulci
Function of the corpus callosum
trasnlates information from the right hemisphere to the left hemisphere in order to facilitate language articulate and comprehension
Interference with the left Middle Cerebral Artery affects-
language and upper right side of the
body
interference with the left Anterior Cerebral Artery affects-
lower right side of body and motivation
Interference with the Posterior Cerebral Artery produces-
visual anomalies (without unilateral loss of motor control), memory difficulties, and sudden falling without loss of consciousness
