Basic Arrythmias Flashcards
What are the characteristics of a Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT)?
P waves run into T waves
What are the characteristics of Atrial Fibrillation?
Erratic atrial rhythm, no distinct P wave
What are the characteristics of Atrial Flutter?
Multiple P waves prior to QRS (saw tooth
What are the characteristics of a Multifocal Atrial Tachycardia?
P waves of various shapes, irregular ventricular rhythm (common among pts. With COPD)
What are the characteristics of a Premature Atrial Contraction (PAC)?
Early P wave that disrupts sinus rhythm, may blend in with T wave
What are the characteristics of a Wandering Pacemaker?
Normal rate with variations in shape and length of P waves
What are the characteristics of a Premature Ventricular Contraction (PVC)?
Premature, wide, and tall QRS what is oppo in polarity than normal QRS
What are the characteristics of Ventricular Tachycardia?
Run of 3 PVC’s (wide QRS), no P wave
What are the characteristics of Ventricular Fibrillation?
Continuous streak of short, erratic QRS complexes with no P waves
What are the characteristics of Ventricular Flutter?
Continuous streak of tall, wide QRS waves with no P waves…looks like continuous Sine waves
What are the characteristics of Torsades de Pointes?
Long QT segment with gradual increase and then decrease in QRS complex height (ribbon appearance)
What are the characteristics of Hyperkalemia?
Wide, flat, or no P wave, wide QRS, peaked T wave (tent like)
What are the characteristics of Hypokalemia?
U wave, flattened T waves
What are the characteristics of a 1st degree AV block?
PR interval > 0.20 seconds (> 1 large box)
