Basic anatomy Flashcards
Chambers of the heart
Left ventricle
Right ventricle
Left atrium
Right atrium
Vessels leaving the heart
Pulmoary artery
Aorta
Vessels entering the heart
4 pulmonary veins,
Superior and inferior vena cava
Valves in the heart
Mitral valve
Tricuspid valve
Pulmonary valve
Aortic valve
Arterial structure 3 layers
Tunica adventitious- connective tissue
Tunica media- external lamina and smooth muscle cells
Tunica intima- endothelium
Blood flow
3% heart muscle 5% bones 6% Skin 14% brain 15% skeletal muscle 22% kidney 21% GI tract 27% liver 8% other
Cardiac output equations
Cardiac output= heart rate x stroke volume
Normal heart rate
60-90 beats per minutes
Heart rate
150-200 beats per minute
Layers of heart wall
Epicardium- serous membrane/ smooth outer surface of the heart
Myocardium- middle layer composed of cardiac muscle cells and is responsible for the heart contracting
Endocardium smooth inner surface of heart chambers
Pectinate muscles
Muscularridges in auricle and right atrial wall
Trabeculae carnae
Muscular ridges and column on the inside walls of the ventricles
Heart valves on the right
Tricuspid and aortic
Heart valves on the left
Mitral valve and pulmonary valve
Coronary arteries
Circumflex artery,
right coronary artery
left main artery,
Left anterior descending
