Basic Aircraft Performance. Flashcards
What is mass?
Quantity of matter in a body ( not related to gravity)
What is weight?
Heaviness if matter (related to local gravity)
Speed is relative. True or False?
True
What is lift?
The force generated by the flow of air over the wings of an aircraft. It is also generated by the tailplane
Is the pressure above the wing high or low?
Low
What is gravity?
The downward force acting on all bodies vertically down towards the centre of the earth
Where does the weight act through?
The centre of Gravity (CoG)
What is thrust?
The force which gives aircraft forward movement
Thrust acts through the
Thrust line
Where does lift act through?
The centre of pressure
Can the CoG move position?
If so how does it move, provide an example.
Yes.
Fuel in tanks
Position of load.
Where does drag act through?
The drag line, opposes thrust.
When is an aircraft considered stable?
When the aircraft will tend to go back to level flight of its own accord without pilot interference
Pressure on top of the wing is?
Less than the bottom
What does Bernoulli’s principle state?
Rise/fall in Pressure within a flowing fluid must always be accompanied by a decrease/increase in speed.
