based acids and buffers - active recall for sigmas Flashcards
1
Q
What is a bronsted-lowry acid and base?
A
- BL acid = a proton donor
- BL base = a proton acceptor
2
Q
Difference between strong and weak acid
A
strong acid fully dissociates from H+ ions, weak acid only partially dissociates from H+ ions
3
Q
How do you identify conjugate acid-base pairs?
A
- Pairs that are linked by an H+, e.g. H2O and H3O+
- since H3O+ can donate a proton and H2O can accept a proton, this makes H3O+ the acid and H2O the base
4
Q
What does Kw stand for?
A
Ionic product
