If s care worker lacks skill they may lack confidence and give poor care

Care workers themselves and not the individual

Lack of status
An individual may not fee important and may feel in the way and not ask for the help they need
Social exclusion
An individual may not be able to be involved socially due to inability, being ignored, or an inappropriate activity
Physical impairment
A lack of mobility may result in lack of control over their care
Concealing problems
Some individuals may not be telling anyone their problems
Attention seeking
Some individuals may display extreme inappropriate behaviour to gain attention
Hostile behaviour
Some individuals may feel lack of empowerment and resort to lashing out and verbal abuse
Feelings of frustration and isolation
Some individuals do not respond to care due to being isolated and frustrated with their situation
Communication barriers
Unable to explain their problem
Poor access to services and resources
Physical: lack of ramps, narrow doors, inability to travel alone
Psychological: fear or dislike of services
Financial: unable to pay for services of treatment they need
Lack of information: not aware of the services available due to lack of publicity
Geographical: distances to travel to get to services
Cultural: differences in beliefs about treatment and traditions
Language: difficulties understanding care workers due to differences in their ‘mother tongue’
