obstacles are problems or difficulties that people may face when trying to follow the recommended actions in place
what does emotional mean
offering encouragement and pointing out progress
what does time mean
time is suggesting ways to fit new activities into daily routines
what does resources mean
resources is suggesting some ways of second hand equiptment or providing resources to borrow or pointing out free classes or an outdoor gym
what does support mean
encouraging family to be supportive suggesting formal support groups
what does specific mean
specific is adjusting to the individuals own needs,wishses and circumstances
what are 3 ways you can overcome emotional obstacles
staying motivated, building self concept, challenging the acceptance of the current state
what are ways you can stay motivated
suggest new ways to meet people such as voluntary work to prevent isolation, plan rewards such as buying new clothes after dropping a clothing size
what are ways you can build self-concept
make sure targets are achieveable, break down targets into small steps so that progress can be see give reassurance
what are ways you can challenge acceptance of the current state
encourage the person to think about the possibility of change, help the person to think about responsibility of change, understand the long term health risks of staying the same and the benefits of making a change
what are emotional and psychological obstacles
a persons emotional and psychologcial state influences their motivation and affects their confidence in their ability to follow a health improvement plan and reach their target.
what is motivation
motivation is the drive to continue with something it is usually higher at the start of a new health and wellbeing improvement plan, when results can show more quickly.
