brief procedure
tested individually, 4 tasks,random
eyes task: shown 25 photos for 3 secs each, photos on eye region of face asked “which word best describes what this persons thinking”, had to choose between 2 e.g calm or anxious (max score 25)
strange stories: presented with 2 examples of 12 story types inc lie, white lie, joke
control tasks (gender recognition) looking at same sets of eyes identify gender (emotion recognition) 6 faces, 6 emotions
results
eye task mean score
autism: 16.3
normal: 20.3
tourette’s: 20.4
autism already performed worse in strange stories, no significant difference in controls
