What does the Being met at the door mean?
The person I’d being welcomed into the church community
What does the sign of the cross mean?
The person now belongs to Christ
What do the Bible readings mean?
God is presence in his guidance and his word
What does the casting out evil mean?
The power of evil is driven away so that the person may be filled with gods grace
What does the anointing with the oil of catechumens mean?
This is giving the strength to fight off the attraction of evil
What does the Baptismal water mean?
Water is a sign of life (needed for survival) and of death (drowning as in Noah’s flood)
What does the pouring or water or immersion in water mean?
The person joins Christ in the tomb of death and rises with him to new life. Sin is washed away
What does the anointing with chrism mean?
The person is a prophet(sent to tell others about Christ), a priest(offering God Praise) and a King(heir to the kingdom of heaven)
What does the white garment mean?
This shows the purity of the soul now that sin has been removed, and a challenged to keep the soul pure for eternal life
What does the lighted candle mean?
This is the light of the Risen Christ and that person should carry with them through out life
What does the prayer over the mouth and ears mean?
The person should hear and proclaim gods praise
