Q

What was the procedure of Bandura?

A

Measured level of fear and perception of how well they could cope.
They were given relaxation exercises.
Desensitisation: under controlled conditions, pps looked at pics of snakes, once arousal levels had fallen they were put into the same room with snakes, eventually participants could handle them.
Finally their fear and coping perception was measured again.

Q

What were the conclusions of Bandura?

A

Desensitisation works. Supports self efficacy as activities led to a change in perception.
Shows self efficacy is both w cognitive and a behavioural concept. Cognitive because of the perception that affects behaviour, but behavioural because the perception is learned from past experience.
Desensitisation comes from associating the snake with nothing happening.
