Balancing Equations Flashcards
1
Q
What are the three rules for balancing equations?
A
Always balance an equation using coefficients.
If there is a compound ion (e.g. S04), balance it as if it is one atom.
Always balance hydrogen 2nd last and oxygen dead last.
2
Q
Complete these examples for balancing equations.
1. KCl03 - KCl + 02
2. NH3 + Cl2 - N2 + HCl
3. K + 02 - K20
4. K0H + H2S04 - K2S04 + H20
A
- 2KCl03 - 2KCl + 302
- 2NH3 + 3Cl2 - N2 + 6HCl
- 4K + 02 - 2K20
- 2K0H + H2S04 - K2S04 + 2H20
