Bailee - Science Flashcards
learn all of the questions for the science test.
Name the 8 characteristics of living things
cells, dna, reproduce, grow, respond, adapt, energy, internal balanced
what are cells?
all living things/the building blocks of life
what is DNA?
genetic code
what does reproduce mean?
off spring
what does grow mean?
increase in size
what is respond?
A reaction to change in enviorment
what does adapt mean?
change over time for survival
what is energy?
The ability to work or cause change.
what is internal balance?
to maintain and sustain
What is the difference between unicellular and multicellular?
Unicellular - has only 1 cell
performs all functions
does everything organisms do
Multicellular - has more then 1 cell
does specific functions
has different organisms
2 examples of unicellular organisms and 1 example of multicellular organisms.
Unicellular - Yeast, Bacteria
Multicellular - Humans, animals
Name 5 living things needed to survive
- Food and water
- Oxygen
- Living space
- Proper temperature
- Energy
Explain food and water
source of energy and needed for growth, chemicals, and waste product.
Explain oxygenn
needed for respiration, and it creates Co2 then plallnts sesese Co2 for photo synthesis.
Explain proper temp.
Homeostasis = ability of organism to keep condition inside body even in environmental change.
Living space
Limited people for each place, animals defend their own territory.
Name 3 things that food and water is used for
- growth
- repairs body parts
- water transports chemicals and waste products.
What is the main source of energy for living things?
The sun
What do plants use for photosynthesis?
Co2, sun, chlorophyl
What does multicellular mean?
more than 1 cell
What does unicellular mean?
only 1 cell
What does metabolism mean?
getting energy by breaking down matter
What does Homeostasis mean?
It can maintain the body temperature regardless of the outside temperature.
What does Heterotroph mean?
cant make its own food. Eats living things
What does interdependent mean?
When 2 things depend on eachother.
What is an organism?
A living thing
What does stimulus mean?
A change in environment
Will your heart rate increase or decrease after exercise?
It increases because 1. your muscle cells are working hard. 2. You use oxygen quickly/you reproduce more Co2 as waste product. 3. When i ran, my heart rate went higher then when i was resting.
What effect does salt water or regular water have on the body?
Fresh water - your cells will expand
Salt water - Your cells will decrease/will not expand/become smaller
What effect does saltwater have on your body?
It makes your cells become smaller
