What is Benedict Test and what is it for?
- To test for glucose in the urine and its amount. The color will change depending on the amount of glucose in the urine.
- It can indicate possibility of diabetes
Purpose of bag techqniue
PREVENT SPREAD OF INFECTIONS FROM INDIVIDUAL TO FAMILIES, AND ULTIMATELY TO COMMUNITY
What are the tests done during home visit?
- BENEDICT’S TEST
- ACETIC ACID TEST
What is the Acetic Acid Test & what is it for?
- It is to determine the presence of protein in the urine (Proteinuria). Ideally, there shouldn’t be any protein bcs they are large molecules which can’t bypass the kidney filter. Presence of albumin means there could be renal problems.
In pregnant women, proteinuria means she may have preeclampsia which is a serious condition during pregnancy
BENEDICT’S TEST INTERPRETATIONS
Blue = negative
Green = trace
Green w/ yellow precip = +
Yellow to dark green = ++
Brown = +++
Orange/Brick red = ++++
ACETIC ACID TEST INTERPRETATION
No turbidity = negative
Mild turbidity = +
Moderate turbidity = ++
Heavy turbidity = +++
Opaque = ++++
