1
Q

A

Parasexual process that transfers DNA through pili; DNA is replicated as a single strand and made doubled stranded in recipient cell

Q

Transformation

A

Uptake of a DNA molecule; only possible by competent bacteria; one strand is broken down as it enters and the other strand can:

  1. Get broken down
  2. Circularize into a plasmid, if a full plasmid
  3. Pair with homologous region on chromosome and undergo single stranded recombination

Q

Transduction

A

Gene movement through viral vector

  • Generalized: DNA is encapsulated into viral proteins
  • Specialized: DNA is incorporated into viral genome

A

Starts at oriT (opposite the direction of arrow head) and transfers chromosomal DNA and is recombined as double-stranded DNA
