Bacteria Diseases Flashcards
What are bacterial diseases?
Diseases caused by bacteria
List some bacterial diseases:
•Salmonella
•Gonorrhoea
What are the symptoms of Gonorrhoea?
•thick yellow or green discharge
•pain while urinating
How is Gonorrhoea spread?
Through sex
How can Gonorrhoea be treated and prevented?

How is Salmonella spread?
•Contaminated food or unhygienic conditions
How can Salmonella be prevented ?
•by vaccinating poultry
•good food hygiene
How can overuse of antibiotics lead to antibiotic resistance in a population of bacteria?
•RANDOM MUTATIONS cause VARIATION in a population of bacteria e.g. some are antibiotic resistant
•antibiotic resistant bacteria have an ADVANTAGE
•those bacteria SURVIVE , REPRODUCE and pass on GENES
•further generations become antibiotic resistant
(Red Monkeys Viciously Attack Smelly Red gorillas)
What is a ‘superbug’?
an antibiotic resistant bacterium
