Prokaryote
Organisms that are single - celled and have no nucleus.
Bacilli

Cocci
any spherical or roughly spherical bacterium.
Spirilla
Long and spiral shaped. They use flagella at both ends to move like a corkscrew.
Binary Fission
One single-celled organism splits into two single-celled organisms.
Endospore
A thick, protective coating that contains genetic material and proteins.
Nitrogen fixation
Takes in nitrogen from the air and changes it to a form that plants can use.
Bioremediation
The biological treatment of hazardous waste by living organisms.
Antibiotic
medicine used to kill bacteria and other microorganisms.
Pathogenic bacteria
Bacteria that causes disease.
Virus
A microscopic particle that gets inside a cell and often destroys the cell.
Host
An organisms from which a parasite takes food or shelter.
