When in a busy room we are able to focus on one conversation at a time and block out all others. But if someone says our name it breaks the block on our attention.

Created dichotic listening task (playing 2 messages at the same time one in each ear) and asked participants to repeat one out loud and shadow the other. Participants failed to notice details from the shadowed message, unless the voice changed from male to female or when speech was replaced by a high frequency sound.
