Back Titrations Flashcards

1
Q

When do back titrations occur?

A

They occur when an excess of one of the reactants is added and that excess is titrated after the reaction takes place.

Q

What is a back titration?

A

Analysis of a weak acid and base. This is difficult to do because the equivalence point is too broad to be determined with an indicator and the endpoint is not a close match with the equivalence point.

Q

What is a pre reaction?

A

Taking the known amount of acid (standard solution) and reacting it with the known volume of the base sample which has the unknown concentration

Q

What are you doing when your removing the excess substance from the original amount of substance?

A

By taking the left over substance away from the original amount of the substance and putting it in a flask that gives how much of the substance is reacted with the other substance in the titration
