Back Muscles Flashcards
extrinsic muscles control…
Upper extremity and Respiration
NOT BACK FUNCTIONS
Intrinsic muscles have two categories:
Superficial - PROXIMAL TO DISTAL ATTACHMENT
* Back - erector spinae (INFEROMEDIAL TO SUPROLATERAL)
* neck - splenius cervicis and capitis
Deep - Transversospinalis: from transverse process to spinous process (INFEROLATERAL TO SUPEROMEDIAL)
Superficial intrinsic muscles have what kind of attachment?
Proximal to distal
Intrinsic superficial back muscles include _______
erector spinae
Erector Spinae is what orientation?
Inferomedial to superolateral
Neck intrinsic muscles include _____
splenius cervicis and capitis
Deep intrinsic muscle and its direction
transversospinalis - from transverse process to spinous process. INFEROLATERAL to SUPEROMEDIAL
Superficial intrinsic muscle
erector spinae
Deep intrinsic muscle
transversospinalis
Must superficial extrinsic back muscle
Trapezius and Latissimus dorsi
Trapezius function:
elevation, upward rotation and adduction of scapula
Latissimus dorsi function:
IR/EXT/ADD of glenohumeral joint, accessory muscle for expiration
Rhomboid minor function
elevation, downward rotation and retraction/adduction of scapula
Rhomboid major function
elevation, downward rotation and retraction/adduction of scapula
What are the three muscles in the Iliocostalis
Lumborum, Thoracis, and Cervicis
