Back Muscles Flashcards
What are the functions of the back muscles?
Extrinsic - upper limb movement and respiration.
Intrinsic - maintains posture and controls movement of the vertebral column.
What are the functions of the bilateral muscles?
Flexion - anterior to the spine.
Rectus abdominis and psaos major.
Extension - posterior to the spine.
Erector spinae.
What are the functions of the unilateral muscles?
Rotation - has oblique fibre orientation.
Lateral flexion.
External obliques, internal obliques, and erector spinae.
What are the anterior abdominal muscles?
Three large flat muscles with different fibre orientations.
Rectus abdominis, transversus abdominis and obliques.
Anterior flexion, lateral flexion, and rotation of the trunk.
What are the posterior abdominal muscles?
The iliacus, psoas major and quadratus.
Anterior flexion (psoas major).
Lateral flexion.
