Back Joints Flashcards
Synovial Joint
Diarthrosis
Synovial Joint (Diarthrosis) 7 types
- Planar (uniaxial)
- Ginglymus (Hinge) (uniaxial)
- Trochoid (Pivot) (uniaxial)
- Condyloid (biaxial)
- Sellar (Saddle) (biaxial)
- Spheroidal (Ball & Socket) (multiaxial)
- Compound Synovial
Fibrous Joint
Synarthrosis
Fibrous Joint (Synarthrosis) Types
Ex. Sutures: Serrated, Squamous, Planar
Syndesmosis: unites bones w/ a sheet of fibrous tissue (a ligament or fibrous membrane) Ex. Interosseus membrane
Syndesmosis (gomphosis or socket): A fibrous joint in which a peg like process fits into a socket (ex. tooth)
Catilaginous Joint
Amphiarthrosis
Cartilaginous Joint (Amphiarthrosis) Types
- Primary C.J. (Synchondrosis): bones united by cartilage to permit growth (ex. epiphysis plate)
- Secondary C. J. (Symphysis): strong, slightly movable joints united by fibrocartilige (ex. intervertebral discs)
Compound Joint
A joint w/ more than one category (Synovial, Fibrous, Cartilaginous)
Atlantooccipital Joint
- Condylar Synovial Joint
- Atlas & Occipital condyles
- Anterior Atlantooccipital membrane, Tectorial membrane, Posterior atlantoocciptal membrane
Median Atlantoaxial Joint
- Trochoid (pivot) Synovial Joint
- Dens of Axis & Atlas
- Cruciate L: Superior Longitudinal band, Transverse L. of the atlas, Inferior Longitudinal band
- Alar L. & Apical L. of dens
Lateral Atlantoaxial Joint
- Planar Synovial Joint
- Superior articulating process of axis and Inferior articulating process of atlas
Zygapophysial Joints
- Plane synovial joints
- Between superior and inferior articular facets from C2-L5
