Cognitive function may not be fully recovered and children may require close supervision

Family must adapt to new family dynamics, deterioration of financial status—important to remember that family needs support too

Often experience adverse effects: behavioral problems, withdrawal from injured sibling, increased fearfulness, becoming overly involved in family issues

Outpatient and home health may be recommended

HEP: encourage child to incorporate as part of daily routine as exercises and rehab may be a lifelong process for them

Encourage participation in sports and activities–good for self esteem and acceptance of peers
