When do you use a semi-rigid knight-taylor TLSO?
stable thoracic or lumbar fracture
What position do you fit a semi-rigid knight taylor TLSO in?
Standing
What movement does a semi-rigid knight taylor TLSO prevent?
Flexion, extension and lateral flexion of trunk
What is an Williams Flexion LSO for?

Which braces need bending irons?
Williams Flexion LSO
What movement does a williams flexion lso prevent?
extension and lateral flexion
What is a soft LSO used for?
Mild trauma
low to moderate back pain
contained herniation

degenerative disc disease
lumbar osteoporosis
post op
What landmarks are needed to fit a Knight brace?
Circumference of waist
circumference of greater trochanters (hips)
Where should the knight brace be positioned?
center of back
under auxilla
above coccyx
What measurements are needed for Semi-rigid taylor TLSO
Circumference of greater trochanters
What order to you don the semi-rigid taylor TLSO in?
Insert one arm through top strap like a shirt
align frame around pelvis with lower aspect sitting at top of pubic bone
tighten straps around pelvic section
tighter shoulder straps
What landmarks are needed to check fit of semi rigid Taylor TLSO?
Centered on spine
at or above gluteal cleft
No impingement on auxilla
No impingement on going
Order of fit of Semi rigid knight taylor tlso
lumbar support at middle of back
fasten contact closure
fasten shoulder straps with arm abducted and
What landmarks are importance for assessing fit of semi rigid Taylor TLSO?
Center of spine
gluteal cleft
axilla
groin
What tools are needed to fit a Williams Flexion LSO?
Bending Irons
Measuring tape
What order do you fit/ don Williams Flexion LSO?
- position support on center of lumbar spine
- fasten anterior contact closure
- Bend lateral uprights to conform to side of body
What measurement is important for selecting size of soft LSO?
Circumference of natural waist
When is a soft taylor TLSO indicated?
Trauma
Chronic low back pain
Degenerative disc disease
Spondylolysis
Spondylolistesis
Muscle Spasm
Spinal Stenosis
Step Down
What is Spondylolysis?
A weakness or stress fracture in one of the vertebrae
What is spondylolisthesis?
The vertebra starts to shift or slip out of place
How do you select the size for a Soft Taylor TLSO?
Circumference of natural waist
What order for donning of Soft taylor TLSO?
lumbar support
front
straps
When to use Contemporary LSO?

Post-OP
What landmarks are needed for CHairback LSO?
Circumference of waist
circumference of hip (greater trochanters)
When do you use a CASH orthosis?
Stable compression fractures between T7 and L2
Flexible thoracic kyphosis
Need for extension to promote spinal alignment/reduce pain/ correct a flexed posture
thoracic instability
Fx accompanied by low back pain
Steps to fit CASH orthosis?
- Adjust horizontal bars
- Loosen allen screws on horizontal bars
- Position horizontal bars below xiphoid process and lateral pads 1/2 inch away from body
- adjust vertical bars patient in supine or seated
- position vertical bars so that pectoral pads are below clavicle, sternal pad is slightly inferior to sternal notch
- Pubic bad should be 2 inch superior to pubis
- Slide in posterior pad
- Straps
Landmarks needed for CASH orthosis
Pubis
Xiphoid process
Clavicle
Sternal notch
When do you use a Jewett Hyper extension orthosis?
Stable compression fractures between T7 and L2
Flexible thoracic kyphosis
Need for extension to remove pain or spinal alignment
Thoracic instability
Fx accompanied by low back pain
What landmarks are important for Jewett Hyper extension orthosis?
Top of brace at sternal notch
Supra pubic pad should be 1.5 inches above crease of leg when seated
Lateral pads should cover lower ribs above illiac crests
Posterior pad should be at thoracolumbar area of spine
When do you use Rigid posterior Aspen TLSO?
Burst fracture
Compression fracture
Kyphosis
osteoporosis
Fusions
Chronic back pain
Degenerative herniated or bulging discs
Laminectomy
Paraplegia
Post op spinal stabilization
Spinal stenosis
SPondylolysis
SPondylolistesis
What measurements are needed for Rigid posterior Aspen TLSO
Circumference at lower rib
circumference at greater trochanter
sacrococcygeal junction to inferior spine of scapula
Greater trochanter to acromion
acromion to acromion
C7 location
What tools are needed to fit Rigid posterior Aspen TLSO?
Tape measure
heat gun
scissors
STeps to fit Rigid posterior Aspen TLSO
- Customize back panel to lordosis using heat and scissors
- Fit rivets of belt with waist circum.
- Use location of C7 to determine height of shoulder strap
- Adjust shoulder straps
- Bend anterior panel to conform to pt. anatomy
