A

IXODES ticks or transplacentally or throug blood transfusion

18
Q

natural parasite reservoir is ?

19
Q

pathogenesis it cause

A

1-babesia ,RBC intravascular haemolysis
2-Proteolytic enzymes- infected erythrocytes -
increased erythrocytic fragility- hypotensive shock - disseminated intravascular coagulation
3-Coating of R.B.C. by parasitic antigenautoagglutination of R.B.C.
4-Parasitaemia, fever and haemoglobinuria are the main clinical attributes.
5-Death occurs due to anaemic anoxia.

20
Q

what are the main clinical attributes?

A

fever, haemoglobinuria, parasitaemia

21
Q

why death occurs?

A

due to anoxia

22
Q

what coat the RBC ?

A

parasitic antigenautoagglutination of RBC

23
what are the clinical signs ?
1- high fever 2-anorexia 3-depression 4-weakness 5-marked anaemia 6-sever jaundice -haemoglobinuria
23
what are diagnosis mechanisms ?
1-blood smear examination 2-PCR 3-ELISA 4- haematology
23
haematology include ?
1- sever anaemia 2-increased leucocyte count associated with moderate neutrophilia 3-presence of albumine and bile pigment in the urine 4-increased level of SGPT, BUN and creatinine
23
what is the treatment ?
quinine + clindamycin
24
alternative treatment ?
Atovaquone + azithromycin
24
what is necessary for sever cases - asplenic with high levels of parasitemia
RBC exchange transfusions are necessary
24
for babesia we ask in history for ?
recent travel - contact with animals
24
does babesia have schizonts , gametocytes, ameboid trophozoites?
no
25
is babesia cyclic shaped?
tend not to be , its milder
