B8-exchange And Transport In Animals Flashcards
What does red blood cells do
Carry oxygen from the lungs around the body
No nuclei
What are white blood cells part of ?
Immune system
What are platlets
They are fragments of cells
And they are important for things like clotting
Does artery have a thick wall and thin lumen
Yes
What does the veins do ?
The veins carry deoxygenated blood
They carry it back to the heart so they have valves
Thin wall and thick lumen
Because they’re carrying blood under low pressure
Does capillaries have one cell thick
Yes this is to allow diffusion
What does the heart do ?
Pumps blood around the body
What does the intercostal muscles do bc
Allow the ribcage to expand
What does the ribs do
Protect the lung
Where does the blood enter in the heart
The vena carva
Once the blood as gone inside the vena carva where does it go
To the right atrium down through a valve into the right ventricle
From the right ventricle it goes to the plamonary artery to the lungs via palmonary artery it goes back into the heart via the pulmonary vein into the left atruim into the left ventricle then pumped to the body via aorta
What does the right side in the heart need to do ?
Pump blood to the lungs
What does the left side need to do
Pump blood to the rest of the body
What does pulmonary vein carry
Carries oxygenated back into the heart
Word equatiom for respiration
Glucose+oxygen——>water+carbon dioxide
