B7-animal Co-ordination And Control Flashcards
What are the different types of conception
The pill
Condom-protects against sexual transmitted diseases
Diaphram
Sterilisation (tubes tied)
What is homeostasis?
Maintainence of a constant internal environment
How do we keep out body functioning properly?
Control our blood glucose level
Our water levels and our temperature
What are the organs in homeostasis and whag do the do
The brain-control centre
The cns-sending signals
The pancreas-insulin
Effectors/muscle-moving eg shivering
Glands-production of other hormones
Homeostasis-blood glucose after eating
Blood glucose levels rise
This is picked up by the pancreas
Pancreas produces insulin
Insulin causes cells to remove glucose from blood
Liver and muscle cells can convert glucose into glycogen and store it
Removing glucose from blood causes blood glucose levels to fall
What happens when blood glucose gets to low ?
If blood glucose gets too low it is picked up by the pancreas
Pancreas starts to produce glycogen
Glucose that is stored in the muscle and liver cels starts to return to the blood
This causes blood glucose leves to rise again
What happens in type one diabetes?
The pancreas doesn’t work properly
So it doesn’t produce the right amount of insulin
What happens in type two diabetes
The cells start to become insensitive to insulin
What are the Symptoms of type one and type two diabetes
Loss of weight Increased need to urinate Thirsty Blurry vision Fatigue Hunger
What is the treatment for type one diabetes
Insulin injection
Wht is the treatment for type two diabetes
Controlling diet exercise
Kidney failure treatments
Kidney dialysis -does the same job as your kidney filters the waste out of the blood and balancing you ions
Kindness transplant -you only need one to function
