B757 Flight Controls Flashcards
Why does the Yaw Damper become INOP?
- Fault
- switch off
- IRS not aligned
How many spoilers per wing?
6
SPEEDBRAKES
- Flaps are in the landing position
2. RA 800 feet or below
Which are the takeoff flap positions?
1, 5, 15 & 20
Alternate flaps switches do what?
- Arms the LE or TE flap alternate drive unit
2. Shuts off hydraulic power to both the flap and slat drive systems
AUTO BRAKES - DISARM
- Disengages the auto brake system
2. Releases brake pressure
Which hydraulic systems supply pressure to the Rudder?
All three
What does the Rudder Ratio System do?
Limits Rudder deflection at high speeds.
Which hydraulic system powers the Rudder Ratio Changer?
Left Hydraulic System
When will the speedbrakes deploy if they are not armed prior to landing?
On the ground when either thrust lever is moved to the reverse idle detent.
What happens to the Slats and Flaps @Flaps 1?
- Slats move to the midrange
2. Flaps extend to 1
What does the Auto Slat System do?
Automatically extends the slats from the midrange to fully extended landing position during a Stall Warning.
When do the Slats move to the landing position?
Flaps 25
Flaps Load Relief is armed when and does what?
Flaps are extended to 30 - armed
Airspeed placard Limit exceeded
Flaps retract to 25 position then back once exceedence
TRAILING
EDGE
- Flap Disagree commanded position
- Flap asymmetry
- Flap lever not in a detent for an extended period
- Flap Load Relief is INOP
Hydraulic power shut off with disagree or asymmetry
LEADING
EDGE
- Slat disagree with commanded position
- Slat asymmetry
- Hydraulic power is shut off
What happens when either the ALTN LE or TE button is pushed?
- Arms the LE or TE alternate drive unit
2. Shuts off hydraulic power to both LE and TE drive units
Is any asymmetry or Load Relief protection available when using ALTN extension?
Only LE have asymmetry protection using ALTN
When do slats extend to landing position with ALTN extension?
Flaps 20 selected
How do you override a Jammed Control ?
- Sufficient forward pressure or
Sufficient aft pressure - Column disconnects
- Use free control column for pitch inputs
Stabilizer Trim Motors are powered?
Hydraulically
At what rate will the autopilot trim the stabilizer?
1/2 rate using only one stabilizer Trim control module.
Stabilizer Trim “OFF” flag?
Stabilizer Trim is INOP
What do STAB TRIM CUTOUT switches do in the cutout position?
Removes hydraulic power to the respective Stabilizer Trim Control Module.
What happens if a control column input is made opposing the direction of the stabilizer trim?
Trim commands are interrupted.
How are the ailerons trimmed?
Dual aileron trim switches on the aft pedestal. Must be pushed together to command trim changes.
What type of trim will override the input of Electrical Trim switches on the control wheel?
- Alternate Trim Lever
2. ALTN STAB TRIM switch input
Which hydraulics power the stabilizer?
2
- Center
- Right
How many stabilizer Trim modules are there?
2
One for each source
How many modes of stabilizer Trim control are there?
3
- Electic
- Alternate
- Automatic
GND PROX SYS EICAS
FLAP OVRD selected for more than 60
seconds airspeed greater than 250
GND PROX SYS EICAS
GEAR OVRD selected for more than 60
seconds airspeed greater than 290
Ko
ALTN STAB TRIM switches
- Electrically signal Stab movement
* neutralize all other stab trim commands
YAW DAMPER INOP
- fault
- switch off
- IRS not aligned
MACH
SPD TRIM
Mach/Speed Trim system is inoperative.
RUDDER
RATIO
- Rudder Ratio System INOP
2. left hydraulic system pressure low
SPEED
BRAKES
SPEEDBRAKES extended
<800 ft RA with Flaps in landing position
What causes the the SPEED BRAKES light to illuminate?
2 conditions
- Flaps in the landing position with speed brakes extended
- RA 800 feet or below with speedbrakes extended
SPOILERS
One or more spoilers pairs are inop or not in the commanded position
STAB TRIM
Electric and alternate stabilizer trim is 1/2 the normal rate
Use of alternate allows
UNSCHED
STAB TRIM
- Uncommanded stab motion detected
- Runaway stab motion with no pilot input
- Wrong way Stab moves opposite of autopilot or Mach speed trim.
- Use of alternate Trim with an autopilot engaged.
AUTO SPDBRK
Fault detected may result in loss of AUTO SPDBRK extension
Mach Speed Trim SYS
Controls stab when autopilot not engaged
• Improves speed stability
• electric, alternate or autopilot trimming overrides Mach speed trim
Aileron trimming w/autopilot
Changed neutral point without showing it on the scale.
How many spoilers per wing and their use?
6
Speedbrakes
Supplementary roll control
What are the TO FLAP settings
1
5
15
20
LDG FLAP settings
20 - non normal
25
30
Flap gates
1 - inadvertent retraction of slats
20 - inadvertent retraction of flaps during a go around
Electric trimming with autopilot
1 autopilot - causes autopilot to disengage
More than ONE AP- inhibited
Alternate trimming with AP
Does not cause disengagement
