What is a sprain?
Damage to a ligament, usually by being stretched too much
What is a dislocation?
When a bone comes out of its socket
How does a torn tendon occur?
When a muscle contracts in one direction but it being pulled in the opposite direction
What does the RICE method treat?
It treats sprains.
What are the stages of the RICE method?
- Rest: avoids further damage
- Ice: reduces swelling by reducing temperature and blood flow to area
- Compression: reduces swelling by reducing blood flow
- Elevation: reduces swelling by making it easier for blood to flow back to the heart
What do physiotherapists treat?
Skeletal-muscular injuries
