Q

What is active transport

A

The movement of molecules from an area of low concentration to high concentration. This uses energy because it happens against the concentration gradient. Requires energy from cell.
E.g absorption of nitrates by plant roots

Q

Why do enzymes denature and what happens when they do

A

As you increase the temperature the rate of reaction increases as the enzymes and substrates vibrate more, causing more collisions. But above a certain temperature the proteins unravel and break apart, they become denatured. (Bonds break if the temperature/pH is too high, the substrate cannot fit into it)

12
Q

What is saturation

A

When the number of enzymes exceeds the number of substrates the rate of reaction no longer increases.

18
Q

What are cells

A

Cells are the smallest living units of all life. Features of an animal, plant, fungal+bacterial cells are all different. The small subunits if a cell are called organelles.
