B4 Flashcards
What is the water cycle ?
- Condensation
- Precipitation
- Transpiration
- Evaporation
What is the carbon cycle ?
- Photosynthesis
- Respiration by plants
- Feeding
- Death & waste
- Decomposition
- No decomposition
- Combustion
What do decomposers do ?
Bacteria & fungi that break down the dead material into chemical parts to be used again
- Bacteria release enzymes to break down the large molecules.
- Decomposers must respire and so require oxygen, warmth & moisture
What is a detritivore ?
Worms, woodlice & millipeads eat dead matter to survive. They feed and chop the dead matter up which increases the surface area for the decomposres to work on.
What are biotic factors ?
Living factors:
- Diseases
- Feeding
- Competition
How does light intensity affect plants ?
Light in needed for photosynthesis. The greater the intensity of the light the more successful a plant is at growing.
What are abiotic factors ?
Non living factors :
- Rainfall
- Sunlight
- Temprature
- Soil type
How does temprature affect plants ?
The temprature effects the enzymes that control metabolic reactions. Plants develop quicker in warmer conditions as their metabolisims will be faster
What is a standard food chain ?
Producer —> primary consumer —> secondary consumer —>tertiary consumer
(plant)
How does soil ph affect plants ?
The PH of the soil affects the biological activity in soil, and the availability of certain minerals.
How does mouister level affect plants ?
For most plants ans animals, the lack of water leads to death. It also helps to keep the plant cells turgid
What adaptions do predators have ?
- Very fast
- Venom
- Binocular vision (eyes at the front)
- Sharp claws/ teeth
- Camoflage
What is a mutalistic relationship ?
A biological interaction between 2 specis where in both the species benefit from one another
What adaptions do prey have ?
- Horns
- Side eyes
- Camoflage
- In a herd
What is a parasitic relationship ?
The relationship between 2 organisims where in 1 organism- the parasite, thrives at the cost of the other - the host
What is the relationship between population of predator & prey ?
When the preys population increases then the predators population increases with a time delay - they depend on eachother
What is interspecific competition ?
Different species competing for one thing
What is intraspecific competition ?
2 or more indviduals of the same species competing for a food source
