Q

What effect will increasing the temperature of surroundings have on photosynthesis?

A

Increasing the temperature of the surroundings will increase the rate of reaction, but only up to around 45°C. At this temperature the enzymes will catalyse and the enzyme will denature.

Q

What will be the effect of increasing the light intensity on photosynthesis?

A

It will increase the rate of reaction because there is more energy to carry out more reactions

Q

How does using a greenhouse help with photosynthesis?

A

It traps the suns radiation as heat inside the greenhouse, so that the temperature is not a limiting factor for the rate of photosynthesis

15
Q

When does anaerobic respiration occur when a person exercises?

A

If the muscles are not receiving enough oxygen to keep up the demand needed by respiration reactions, then anaerobic respiration begins to occur. This incomplete oxidation of the glucose produces lactic acid which converted in the muscles and result in an oxygen debt.

16
Q

What is metabolism?

A

The combination of all the reactions in a cell or in the body

17
Q

In anaerobic respiration, how is lactic acid transported?

A

Transported via the bloodstream to the liver, the liver converts that lactic acid back into glucose. However, oxygen is needed to carry out this reaction.

18
Q

What is the oxygen debt in anaerobic respiration?

A

The amount of oxygen required by the body to convert the built-up lactic acid back into glucose and remove it from the respiring cells
