B3.3 Flashcards
1
Q
What is the thermoregulatory centre?
A
Thermoregulatory:
- Regulates temperature
2
Q
Describe what body does when temperature increases ?
A
Temperature increases:
- Body temperature goes up
- Detected by receptor in skins
- Generates electrical impulse that thermoregulatory receives from sensory neurone
- Signal then sent down from motor neurone to effector
3
Q
What are responses for a hot day?
A
Responses for hot day:
- Sweat gland stimulated
- Blood vessels dilate so closer to skin, where cool air is
- Hair lays flat to reduce insulation
4
Q
What are responses for a cold day?
A
Responses for a cold day:
- Shivering
- Limit blood supply to blood vessel
- Hairs rise to trap air, which is an insulator
5
Q
What is vasodilation?
A
Vasodilation:
- Widening of blood vessels
6
Q
What is vasoconstriction?
A
Vasoconstriction:
- Constriction of blood vessels
7
Q
What happens when you eat food?
A
Eating food:
- Blood glucose level will rise
- Receptor cells in pancreas detect rise
- Pancreas releases insulin
- Insulin instructs liver to convert excess glucose to glycogen
- Soluble glucose molecules linked together to form glycogen
8
Q
What happens when you are hungry?
A
Hungry:
- Receptors detect fall
- Pancreas releases glucagon
- Glucagon acts on liver
- Causes glycogen to break down glucose chains to glucose molecules
9
Q
What is the ureter?
A
Ureter:
- Takes urine towards bladder
10
Q
What is the renal vein?
A
Renal vein:
- Carries clean blood
- Red
11
Q
What is the medulla?
A
Medulla:
- Contains loop of Henle and collecting ducts
