A

A system that detects a change in a condition. The system then acts to return condition to the desired level

What happens when the hypothalamus detects our cells need more energy?

A

The hypothalamus causes the pituitary gland to release TSH. The TSH stimulates the thyroid gland to release thyroxine. This increases the metabolic energy, allowing cells to transfer additional energy. When cells have the required amount energy, the hypothalamus inhibits the production of TSH. The thyroid gland therefore stops releasing thyroxine

What happens when we feel scared of frightened and adrenaline is released?

A

The body responds by:

  • respiring more quickly to increase rate of ATP production
  • increasing the breathing rate to cope with demand of oxygen
  • increasing heart rate
  • diverting blood away from are such as the digestive system to the muscles
