B3 practical investigate the effect of pH on the rate of reaction of amylase enzyme Flashcards
1
Q
explain the steps of this reaction
A
- put a drop of iodine solution into every well of a spotting tile
- place a bunsen burner on a heat proof may and a tripod and gauze over the bunsen burner and heat the water until its 35 degrees C
- use a syringe to add 1cmcubed of amylase solution and 1cmcubed of a buffer solution pH5 to the boiling tube and put the tube into the beaker of water, wait 5 mins
- add 5cmcubed of a starch solution to the boiling tube
5.mix and start a stop clock - record how long it take the amyalse to break down all of the starch. drop iodnie solution in every 30 secs- when the iodine solution remains browny-orange starch is no longer present
- repeat with buffer solutions of different pH values to see how pH affects the time taken for the starch to be broken down.
2
Q
give a control variable of this experiment
A
concentration and volume of amylase solution
