Cells Tissues Organs Organ system Organism
What is tissue?
A tissue is a group of cells with similar structures and functions.
What are organs?
Collective tissue performing a particular task.
Organism
They are organised into organs, that sill work together to from an organism.
Digestive system
Mouth, nose, gullet, diaphragm, stomach, liver, pancreas, gull bladder, duodenum, bile duct, large intestine, small intestine, appendix and anus.
What does the large intestine do?
Breaks down larger insoluble molecules into smaller soluble molecules and absorption.
What does the liver do?
Produces bile.
What does the small intestine do?
Breaks down larger insoluble molecules into smaller soluble molecules.
What do carbohydrates break down into?
Simple sugars.
What are lipids?
Lipids are fats and oils and they can store energy in your body for longer amounts of time.
What do lipids make?
They make fatty acids and glycerol.
What are proteins?
Proteins are used to build up cells and tissue inside the body and 15 to 16 percent of your body is mostly proteins.
What do proteins make?
They make amino acids which are the building blocks of proteins and they can join in a line with almost an endlessly amount of possibilities.
How many amino acids are there?
Around 20.
What are simple sugars.
Simple sugars are carbohydrates that contain only one or two sugar units and with simple sugars, if placed into Benedict’s solution it will turn blue.
What are enzymes?
Enzymes are a biological catalysts.
What do catalysts do?
They increase the rate
