B.1 Flashcards
Microscopes
Light and electric
Highest magnitude for a microscope
X2000 for light microscope and for electric X2,000,000
Magnification formula
Magnification equals image size over actual size
Animal cells
Cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondria, ribosomes.
Plant cells
Cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, chloroplast, mitochondria, vacuole, ribosomes, cellulose.
Nucleus
What controls the cell and where all the DNA is stored.
Cell membrane
The thing that lets thing in and out.
Cytoplasm
Where the chemical reactions take place.
Ribosomes
Where the proteins are made.
Cell wall
Structures the cell
Chloroplast
Enables plants to gather sun light.
Vacuole
Gets filled with cell sap to support the structure of the cell
Mitochondria
Structures where the respiration takes place releasing energy to the cell.
Specialised cells
Nerve cells, sperm cells, egg cells, red blood cell, white blood cells muscle cells and more.
Diffusion
Diffusion is the spreading out of particles through gasses such as air or any substance in a solution.
Diffusion rates
Diffusion will slow down and speed up when there is a dilute solution or if there is a concentrated solution.
Osmosis
When a substance gets through a partially permeable cell membrane.
How will osmosis be affected in a concentrated solution
Water will move into the concentrated solution from outside.
How will osmosis be affected in a dilute solution.
Water will move into the cell from the area of pure water to less pure water.
Active transport
When a substance moves inti a cell AGAINST the concentration gradient eg moving from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration.
Exchanging materials
Movement of a substance across a cell membrane.
