B2.6 Respiration Flashcards
What is the equation for aerobic respiration?
Oxygen+glucose–>carbon dioxide+water
What is the equation for anaerobic respiration?
Glucose–>lactic acid+energy transferred
Glucose–>ethanol+carbon dioxide+energy transferred
Which type of athletic events require anaerobic respiration?
Running, high jump, cycling
What is oxygen debt?
This is when lactic acid builds up in the muscles meaning they aren’t receiving enough oxygen. Therefore, the lactic acid is oxidised so that the muscles can contract and relax.
What are the differences between anaerobic respiration in human muscle cells and in yeast cells?
Lactic acid is produced in the human and ethanol is produced in the yeast
What substance is glucose stored as in the muscles?
Glycogen
Where in the cell do most aerobic respiration reactions happen
Mitochondria
