B2-Cells & Control Flashcards
Describe mitosis
The cells divide into two genetically identical diploid cells
Describe the importance of mitosis
For growth and tissue repair
How many cells are produced from a fertilised egg after two divisions of mitosis - explain
One division produces two daughter cells, two divisions produces four daughter cells.
Describe the events that take place in the cell during interphase
normal cell processes and DNA replication
Describe what happens during anaphase of mitosis
The chromatids split then are pulled apart to opposite ends of the cell by spindle fibres
Which process occurs causing the divided cells to become specialised?
Differentiation
Describe the process of fertilisation
The nuclei of a sperm and egg cell fuse together to make a diploid zygote
Name the two organs of the central nervous system (CNS)
Brain and spinal cord
How does the axon carry information along the neurone
As electrical impluses
State the name of the gap between neurones
Synapse
