B16 : Adaptations, Interdependence and Competition Flashcards
B16.1 : The Importance of communities : Interdependence DEF
The interrelations and interdependencies among different organisms and their physical environment
B16.2 : Organisms in their environment : Keystone species
a keystone species is a species which has a disproportionate effect on its community in relation to its population
B16.2 : Organisms in their environment : Keystone species catagories
-Predators => Hunts/prevents overpopulation of prey (Wolf)
-Prey => provides protein biomass for other species (Deer)
-Mutualists => provide mutually beneficial arrangements (Bees)
-Host => Provides an environment for others to thrive (Kelp, Beech trees)
-Modifier => modifies the terrain/environments (Beavers)
B16.2 : Organisms in their environment : Habitat DEF
The place where an organism lives
B16.2 : Organisms in their environment : Population DEF
All the organisms of one species living in one habitat
B16.2 : Organisms in their environment : Community DEF
All the populations of different species living in a habitat
B16.2 : Organisms in their environment : Abiotic Factors DEF
The non-factors of the environment
B16.2 : Organisms in their environment : Biotic Factor DEF
Living factors of the enviroment
B16.4 : Competition in animals : Inter and Intra specific competition DEF
-Interspecific competition is the competition between individuals of different species
-Intraspecific competition is the competition between individuals of the same species
Intra more intense than Inter as individuals will be competing for the exact same resources
B16.4 : Competition in animals : Competition for food
