B14- Variation + Evolution Flashcards
Why can bacteria eveolve rapidly
As they reproduce at s fast rate
What is the benefit for bacteria if they reproduce at a fast rate
High reproduction rate means higher chance of Mutations of bacertial pathogens that will produce new strains
If new strains are produced what will happen
Some strains might be resistance to antibiotics and are therefore not killed
If they survive they can reproduce, this will increase the population of the new resistant strain and will therefore spread
How do we reduce the rate of development
It is improtant that doctors do not over pescirbe antibiotics inappropriately and that they make sure the patients finish their entire course of antibiotics
How are living things categorised into groups
They are categorised depending on their structures and characteristics
What is the order that Linnaeus classified the organisms into
Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species
How are organisms named (worldwide)
Latin name for the genus + the latin name for the species
