B1.4 Flashcards
1
Q
What do plants compete for?
A
Light, space, water, minerals in soil
2
Q
What do animals compete for?
A
Space, food, water, mates
3
Q
How are plants adapted in desert environments?
A
- small surface area compared to volume
- water storage tissue
- maximising water absorption (cacti have shallow extensive roots to absorb water quickly)
4
Q
How are animals adapted for desert entertainments?
A
- camouflage
- thin layers of fat
- efficient with water(produce less urine)
5
Q
How are animals adapted for the artic?
A
- small surface area compared to volume
- blubber
- camouflage
6
Q
Living factors that effect environmental changes
A
- infections disease
- number of predators
- change in number of prey/food sources
- competition
7
Q
Non-living factors that’s effect environmental changes
A
- temperature
- rainfall
- level of air/water pollution
8
Q
What three ways is environmental changes affecting population?
A
- increases-number of prey increase
- decreases-less food available, more disease
- distribution-changes in where lives, due to temperature for example
9
Q
How do living organisms detect change?
A
- if there’s more mayfly larvae in a river it means it’s clean
- if there’s maggots or sludgeworm it means there’s high levels of water pollution
10
Q
How do non living indicators detect change?
A
- satellites measure temperatures of the sea surface
* rainfall, using rain gauges
