Cost Estimate Methods by the Architect
A
- Order of Magnitude, usually happens during programming. It’s a bullpark number, may be determined based on histroic project data. For example, a school project for 500 students, previous projects show a $ per student, use that for estimation.
- Unit of Measure, usually at the end of SD, more specific square footage.
- Assemblies/Systems, Usually happens at the end of DD phase. Aseemblies have been determined, could use that for estimation. For example, $ per linear feet for selected brick wall.
- Unit Price, usually at the end of CD. The most specific. But the Architect’s estimate is based on good faith, it might not be accurate (and usually not)
