Cost Estimate Methods by the Architect

A
  1. Order of Magnitude, usually happens during programming. It’s a bullpark number, may be determined based on histroic project data. For example, a school project for 500 students, previous projects show a $ per student, use that for estimation.
  2. Unit of Measure, usually at the end of SD, more specific square footage.
  3. Assemblies/Systems, Usually happens at the end of DD phase. Aseemblies have been determined, could use that for estimation. For example, $ per linear feet for selected brick wall.
  4. Unit Price, usually at the end of CD. The most specific. But the Architect’s estimate is based on good faith, it might not be accurate (and usually not)
