B10 Nervous System And Control Flashcards
What is homeostasis?
Homeostasis is the regulation of internal conditions of a cell or organisms to maintain optimum conditions for function, in response to internal and external changes.
Why is homoeostasis important ?
Homoeostasis is important for maintaining optimal conditions for enzyme action and all cell functions.
What does homoeostasis control?
Homoeostasis controls blood glucose concentration, body temperature and water levels.
What do control systems include?
All control systems include receptors, coordination centres and effectors.
How does the nervous system work?
The nervous system uses electrical impulses to enable you to react quickly to your surroundings and coordinate your behaviour?
What do you impulses from receptors do ?
Impulses from receptors pass along sensory neurons to the brain or spinal cord. The brain coordinates the response, and impulses are sent along motoneurons from the brain to the effector organs.
