B1 Flashcards
Microscopes, plant and animal cells, enzymes
Image size=
Magnification x real size
Real size=
image size ÷ magnification
Total magnification=
Eye piece lens magnification x
objective lens magnification
What microscope would you use to see mitochondria?
Electron microscope
What are electrons used for in an electron microscope?
Higher magnification and resolution
What microscope would you use to see a living cell?
Light microscope
What type of cells are animals and plants made up of?
Eukaryotic
What type of cell does a single celled organism contain?
Prokaryotic
What extras do plant cells contain?
Cell wall, permanent vacuole, chloroplasts
What type of nucleus do sperm and egg cells contain?
Haploid
Why do sperm cells have a long tail
To swim to egg
Why do sperm cells have lots of mitochondria?
For energy for respiration to swim
Why do sperm cells have an acrosome?
To store enzymes needed to digest its way into the egg cell membrane
Why do egg cells have a cytoplasm?
To contain nutrients needed to feed an embryo
What does an egg cell membrane do after fertilisation?
Changes structure so no more sperm can enter so offspring gets the right amount of DNA
