B Cell Recognition Flashcards
How do lymphocytes differentiate into effector cells?
Stem cell produces variety of cells. Specific antigens attach to immature lymphocytes.
Mature lymphocytes are produced and activated.
What happens when activated B cells proliferate?
They develop into both memory cells and plasma cells to combat against both short/long term future.
Basic structure of an antibody?
2 light chains and 2 heavy chains with disulphide bonds.
How do antibodies bind to antigens?
Electrostatic forces,
Hydrogen bonds,
Van der Waals forces,
Hydrophobic forces.
Where do antigens bind to?
Between the light and heavy chain areas.
How many classes of antibodies are there?
5 classes GAMDE
Which immunoglobulin has the best affinity with mast cells and basophils?
IgE
What is the role of memory cells?
Cells that can respond rapidly to exposure of the same antigen. Has long life span.
Which antibody is important for the secondary response?
IgG
Which antibody is effective at activation?
IgM, usually first antibody to be produced after exposure.
Which antibody is specific to signalling?
IgD
