B 737 Oral Questions Flashcards
After landing what would cause the illumination of either amber REVERSER light?
“There is a disagreement between the actual reverser and the position of the lever.”
This light only lights when you stow the reverser, not when you open the reverser. If the reverser is in the stowing position for more 12 or more seconds the light will illuminate.
What does the amber “ENGINE CONTROL” light meant?
“There is a fault with the engine control systems which warrants a NO GO item.”
What are the modes of failure of the EEC? What are the differences between them?
Soft and Hard Alternate mode
“A soft failure is when the engine fails to the ALTERNATE mode. Hard failure is when we manually put the EEC into the ALTERNATE mode.”
Soft failure locks the last sensed flight conditions are locked into the EEC so a thrust shortfall or exceedence could be possible.
How does the PASSENGER OXYGEN switch work in normal?
“The oxygen masks will automatically deploy at a cabin altitude reaches 14,000 feet. The PASSENGER OXYGEN light will also illuminate”
What does the amber PASSENGER OXYGEN light mean?
“It means that the PSU doors have opened and the masks are deployed”
What would cause the IRS ALIGN light to flash?
(NO) No Position Entry
(BAD) Bad Position Entry
(MOVE) A/C has been Moved
What does the amber “ON DC” Light mean?
“The respected IRS is operating on Battery Power. This light will come on normally when you switch the IRS to NAV. It will illuminate for 5 seconds as a self test using DC power from the battery bus”
When does the amber “FAULT” light illuminate?
“There is a fault or failure with the respected IRS”
When does the amber “DC FAIL” light illuminate?
“DC Power to the IRS has failed.”
This commonly illuminates if the Switched Hot Bat Bus is not powered or the battery is drained and close to dead
What does the amber “PSEU” light mean?
“There is a Proximity Switch Issue that warrants a NO GO condition.”
What makes the “LOW PRESSURE” light come on for flight control system A or B? How can we fix this problem?
“There is a Low Pressure Condition in the hydraulic system. You can fix this problem by turning the STBY RUDDER on”
What happens when you put the A system in the STBY Rudder position?
Standby Pump On
Opens SRSOV (Standby Rudder Shut off Valve)
Arms Low Pressure Light
Position Indicating Light
What happens when you put the B system in the STBY Rudder position?
Standby Pump On Opens SRSOV (Standby Rudder Shut off Valve) Arms Low Pressure Light Position Indicating Light Yaw Damper
When do we use the Guarded Spoiler Switches?
“We do not use them, they are for MX only.”
If asked for detail, they are for spoiler rigging.
What happens when we put the ALTERNATE FLAP SWITCH to arm?
- Arms the Up/Down flap switch
- Activates the Standby Pump
- Closes the Trailing Edge Flap Bypass Valve
What is the main purpose of the ALTERNATE FLAP SYSTEM?
“To electrically operate the Trailing Edge Flaps if hydraulic system B is lost.”
- Trailing Edge Devices are extended and retracted using an electric motor.
- Leading Edge Devices are extended and retracted using Standby Hydraulic Pressure and may not be retracted
When does the amber “FEEL DIFF PRESS” light illuminate?
“Excessive differential pressure in the Elevator Feel Computer.”
When does the amber “SPEED TRIM FAIL” light illuminate?
“If you have a Dual Channel failure of the FCC Computer system. Upon dual channel failure you will get a MASTER CAUTION and the SPEED TRIM FAIL light. If only a single channel fails you will only get a recall annunciation.”
When does the amber “MACH TRIM FAIL” light illuminate?
“If you have a Dual Channel failure of the FCC Computer system. Upon dual channel failure you will get a MASTER CAUTION and the MACH TRIM FAIL light. If only a single channel fails you will only get a recall annunciation.”
What does an amber “AUTO SLATS FAIL” light mean?
“Dual channel failure of the SMYD (Stall Management Yaw Damper) Computer. If only one channel fails it would only show on the recall switch”
How can we control the ENG fuel valve and the Spar fuel valve?
The Engine Fire Switch and the Engine Start Levers
What does a Bright Blue ENG VALVE CLOSED light mean?
“There is a disagreement between the Start Lever and the Valve Position”
What powers the Crossfeed Valve?
DC Power from the Battery Bus
What powers the ENG fuel Valve?
DC Power from the Hot Battery Bus
