Is ASR using sync replication?
No, it replicates every 30sec, 5min and 15 min.
What is a replication policy?
A replication policy defines the settings for the retention history of recovery points. The policy also defines the frequency of app-consistent snapshots. By default, Azure Site Recovery creates a new replication policy with default settings of:

not in the same region but in a dest region that is different.
When you install the extension agent on the VM, do you have to keep it up to date?
It is optional, you can opt to have Azure take care of this agent.
How is ASR replicating data?
- Data is pushed to a cache (blob storage), local to region.
- Data is then pushed from cache to a managed disk in the secondary region by ASR in the secondary region.
Can you change the size of the VM created in the secondary region?
Yes
How can i ensure the VM that is replicated is going to work when needed?
You can preform a test failover to secondary region
When preforming a failover, what do you have to select?
