Axilla and Brachial Plexus Flashcards
what is the axilla
the area of transition between neck and arm(gateway to the upper limb)
the axilla is formed by
Clavicle, scapula and humerus
- Upper thoracic wall and related muscles
what do major vessels and nerves pass between neck and axilla
they crossover the lateral border of the first rib and through axillary inlet
the subclavian artery changes names to what after crossing the lateral margin of the first rib and enters axilla
it changes to axillary artery
the axillary vein becomes what as it passes over the lateral margin of the first rib and exits axilla
it becomes the subclavian vein
where do the inferior trunk of brachial plexus ,subclavian artery and subclavian vein lie
directly on the first rib
what are the artery and vein separated by as they pass over the first rib
by the insertion of anterior scalene muscle
what is the clavipectoral fascia
this is the thick sheet of connective tissue that connects the clavicle to the floor of the axilla
what does the clavipectorial fascia enclose
subclavius and pectoralis minor muscles
what forms the lateral wall
entirely by the intertubercular sulcus of the humerus
the posterior wall is formed by
coastal surface of the scapula
what are the muscles of the posterior wall
subcapularis, teres major, latissimus dorsi and the long heads of triceps brachii
what are muscles of the anterior wall
pectarolis major, pectarolis minor, subclavius and clavipectorial fascia
where does the pectarolis major insert
the lateral lip of intertubercular sulcus of humerus
what are the spaces of the posterior wall
quadrangular, triangular space and triangular interval space
