Closes eye for winking, blinking, squinting
Levator Palpebrae
Opens eye for winking, blinking, squinting
Temporalis
Elevates and retracts mandible
Masseter
Elevates and protracts mandible
Digastric muscle
Depress the mandible
Buccinator
Compressed the cheek, limits space between the cheek and teeth during chewing
Orbicularis Oris
Purse lips to whistle and speak
Zygomaticus major/minor
Elevates corners of mouth to smile
Depressor anguli oris
Depresses corners of mount to frown
Sternocleidomastoid
One muscle turns head to opposite side, both muscles together pull head down
Longissimus capitis
One muscle turns neck to same side, both muscles extend neck
Diaphragm
During inspiration, it lowers, increasing the vertical dimensions of the thoracic cavity ( causing lungs to expand )
External intercostals
Elevates ribs during inspiration
Internal intercostals
Depress ribs during expiration
External obliques
One side: laterally flexes or rotate vertebral column
Both sides: flexes vertebral column
Internal obliques
One side: laterally flexes or rotate vertebral column
Both sides: flexes vertebral column
Transverse abdominis
One side: laterally flexes or rotate vertebral column
Both sides: flexes vertebral column
Rectus abdominis
Flexes vertebral column and compressed abdominal wall
Serratus anterior
Protracts (moves anterior) the scapula
Trapezius
Elevates, retracts and depresses the scapula
Pectoralis major
Flexión and addiction at the shoulder
Latissimus dorsi
Extension and adduction at the shoulder
Subscapularis
Medically rotates at the shoulder
Deltoid
Main job- abduction at the shoulder… but assists in every shoulder based movement
Supraspinatus
Abduction at the shoulder
Teres major
Extends and adducts at the shoulder
Teres minor
Adducts and lateral rotates at the shoulder
Infraspinatus
Adducts and lateral rotates at the shoulder
