what is the magna carta?
the first doucument to restrict the english kings power. it means great charter in latin. king john was forced to sign it. it protected the right to own property, and gauranteed the right to trial by jury
parliament
the englsh law making system. was formed under the magna carta. had the house of lords and the house of commons. approved new taxes this power was called the power of the purse
the english bill of rights
a document to give rights to the English people. Rights: taxing money for the kings personal use is illegal; keeping an army in a time of peace is illegal; anyone can vote for members of parliament; whatever parliament says is law unless challenged by other members of parliament
a bill of rights
a list of privileges or freedoms that the government ensures
libel
something that is false and hurts someones reputation
